Staff Database Engineers are members of our product teams, responsible for creating, enhancing, and supporting common features. They are responsible for maintaining our critical data stores. Working side-by-side with Product Owners, Software Test Engineers, and Business Stakeholders, they are actively involved in the complete software development life cycle in an agile environment including technical design, hands-on coding, unit testing, integration testing, performance tuning, maintenance, test automation, deploys and database upgrades.

During the first six months, you will:

• Work on a medium or large project overall within a team/area 
• Work in parallel with peers and often take a leading role on features or refactors  
• Regularly mentor or coach one or more junior database engineers
• Design standalone systems of moderate complexity, or major new features in existing systems
• Perform code reviews and provides consistent, useful, constructive feedback 
• Effectively deliver medium or large team projects
• Recognize and surface risks/unknowns and keep work in line with bigger picture goals
• Provide input in database design, performance tuning, troubleshooting, error handling and hardware planning
• Resolve data issues and facilitate data analysis
• Interested in staying current and proficient on existing emerging relevant database technology through self-study and company/vendor provided training opportunities

Required Experience: 

• Bachelor's degree or 5+ years of database experience  
• Must be adaptable to change and have a willingness to learn 
• Must have a strong sense of curiosity 
• Must commit to their role and take responsibility for their tasks 
• Must be able to work effectively in an agile and team environment
• Must be effective and creative in problem solving 
• MongoDB Atlas database experience required  
• MongDB Sr+ level experience 
• Experience with AWS cloud required  
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code/AWS CloudFormation is preferred 
• Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL preferred  
• Experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.  
• Capacity planning and system right sizing 
• Utilizing metrics to trend data for performance analysis and capacity planning  
• Responsibility for database SLA  
• Responsibility for database innovation 
• Responsibility for High Availability solutions for the databases 
• Participation in on-call duties
