About the Team & Role
The Delivery Platforms team is responsible for building and maintaining the CI/CD platforms and tools that empower engineers at Paylocity to deliver software rapidly, safely, and efficiently. This team owns core CI/CD infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and related services that enhance developer productivity and ensure reliable software delivery at scale.
As a Staff DevOps Engineer, you will be a key technical leader responsible for improving the stability, scalability, and performance of our CI/CD platform. You will work closely with other engineering teams to enhance the developer experience and drive continuous improvements in delivery pipelines and automation. You will also play an essential role in mentoring engineers and sharing best practices across the organization.

Responsibilities
- CI/CD Platform Ownership: Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure CI/CD platforms and deployment pipelines to support software delivery across the organization.
- Automation & Efficiency: Build automation solutions to streamline build, deployment, and release processes, improving developer velocity and operational efficiency.
- Operational Excellence: Monitor and maintain the health of CI/CD systems, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. Lead incident response and post-incident reviews to drive improvements.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with other teams in Platform Engineering to align and integrate delivery platforms with observability, infrastructure, and internal developer tooling.
- Continuous Improvement: Research, evaluate, and adopt new tools and practices to evolve the CI/CD platform and improve delivery processes.
- Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Mentor engineers on best practices for CI/CD, automation, and operational excellence. Foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
- Security & Compliance: Implement security best practices and ensure compliance requirements are met in CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
- Incident Management & Root Cause Analysis: Investigate complex issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative measures to ensure platform stability.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Strong experience with CI/CD tools and platforms (e.g., GitHub Actions, TeamCity, GitLab CI, Octopus Deploy, Argo CD) and best practices for software delivery.
- Experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., C#, Go, Python, Java) and scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash).
- Familiarity with SRE principles, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and performance tuning in CI/CD systems.
- Solid understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across teams to deliver large-scale solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on resolving complex technical issues.
- Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives, mentor engineers, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
Nice to have
- Experience with managing and scaling large CI/CD platforms.
- Knowledge of security best practices for CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Experience with GitOps practices and tools (e.g., Argo CD, Flux).
