Position Overview


As a Software Engineer Intern, you will learn and contribute within a collaborative, agile engineering environment. This internship is designed for students who are eager to apply their academic knowledge to real-world software development while learning from experienced engineers and mentors.


You’ll work alongside Software Engineers, Product Managers, and Software Test Engineers to support the development and enhancement of Paylocity products. With guidance and support, you’ll participate in Paylocity’s software development lifecycle (PDLC), contribute to well-scoped tasks, and gain exposure to complex, real-world systems.


Hybrid: This role follows a hybrid schedule, requiring 2-3 days in the office at our Prague location and 2 days remote per week. The in-office days are subject to business needs. Candidates must be able to commute to the office as required. The work arrangement for this role is subject to change based on business needs and individual performance. This may include adjustments to on-site requirements or schedule expectations, as necessary. 


Term: June 2026 - September 2026 

  

Responsibilities

  • Participate in team ceremonies such as stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
  • Work on clearly defined development tasks with guidance from mentors and teammates
  • Write clean, readable, and maintainable code following team standards
  • Learn to read, understand, and modify existing codebases
  • Contribute unit tests and documentation as part of feature development
  • Collaborate with engineers, testers, and product partners in an agile environment
  • Ask questions, seek feedback, and apply learnings to improve your skills
  • Demonstrate curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for learning new technologies
  • Take pride in building software that works and improves over time
  • Contribute positively to team culture and shared goals

  

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Completion of coursework or academic projects involving programming or software development
  • Basic understanding of object-oriented programming concepts
  • Familiarity with web development fundamentals (client-side technologies, APIs, and databases such as SQL)
  • Exposure to at least one programming language (e.g., C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, or similar)
  • Strong willingness to learn, ask questions, and take feedback
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Comfortable working on Windows or macOS

  

Nice to Have (Not Required)

  • Prior internship, co-op, or personal project experience
  • Exposure to  version control systems such as Git
  • Familiarity with automated testing or web frameworks (e.g., ASP.NET, MVC, or similar)
